Painless Back to Front Warping
Materials fee: $2 (Fee covers printed warping instructions for participants to take home.)
For so many weavers, dressing the loom is a long and daunting task that can be a serious obstacle to weaving pleasure, which makes me very sad indeed! I can easily wind a warp and dress a loom for scarves in less than an hour, or with a 20 yd warp for place mats (280 ends threaded straight draw) in under two. My goal is to take the pain out of warping so that anyone can dress her loom quickly and without mistakes to that she can get straight to the pleasure of weaving.
This demonstration begins with winding a warp for ease and speed of beaming, then continues with my refinement on the Swedish method of back to front warping. As I work, I’ll share a wealth of hints for making the process as smooth, quick, and painless as possible, focusing in particular on threading accuracy. Discussions will also touch on the proper way to put heddles on the loom, right handed vs. left handed threadings, and the proper tools for the job.
