Woven Shibori on the Rigid-Heddle Loom
Shibori is a traditional japanese resist-dye technique in which hand-stitching creates gorgeous organic patterns in cloth. In this two-day class we will use the rigid-heddle loom to weave in a supplemental weft yarn to create the resist, by efficiently storing the pattern behind the heddle. Students will see samples of different shibori patterns and have the option of weaving one or more (or creating their own pattern!) to weave, pull, and dye a woven shibori scarf and/or sampler.
